Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy

Musculoskeletal Physio in Townsville

For Pain, Osteoporosis, Sports Injuries & More

Musculoskeletal physiotherapy is a type of physical therapy that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal disorders. It is often used to treat conditions such as joint sprains or strains, osteoporosis and sports injuries.

At PhysioCare Townsville, our physios use clinical assessment and diagnostic methods to determine the nature of the injury before developing a treatment plan. The goal of rehabilitation is to help patients regain the highest level of function and independence. We adopt a hands-on approach to rehabilitation, focused on decreasing pain, improving range of motion and increasing muscle strength. This can sometimes incorporate treatments such as dry needling and hydrotherapy.

Our team can develop personalised treatment plans as well as doctor-supervised programs, designed for clients with impairments or disabilities. We can also help clients obtain assistive devices. What is Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy?

Musculoskeletal physiotherapy is the assessment and treatment of your muscles, ligaments, tendons, joints or bones. If you have suffered an injury to any of these structures, your physiotherapist will employ advanced clinical assessment and diagnostic methods to find out about nature of the injury. Your physiotherapist will then discuss a treatment plan with you.

You don’t necessarily have to have a specific mechanism of injury to seek treatment; many musculoskeletal complaints arise without you even realising what you did. Regardless of this, our professionals can still assess your condition and work out a comprehensive management plan. To learn more, get in touch with our team today.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist?

A referral from your GP is optional. Physiotherapists are Primary Healthcare Practitioners so no doctor’s referral is required unless the following situations apply:

    • You are a DVA card holder, and you want to claim your treatment through DVA
    • You would like to claim your costs through Medicare
    • You are claiming your injury through Workcover etc. In this case you should have a claim number and a Worker’s Compensation Certificate
  • Will I get a Health Rebate?

Physiotherapy is not rebatable under Medicare but most Private health insurance companies rebate physiotherapy services. Being Provider’s Choice for BUPA and Medibank Private you will get the maximum refund from your health insurance provider, dependant on your level of cover. This means you pay a minimal gap fee. Some limited sessions are covered by Medicare (these are only for those patients referred by their Doctor on the Enhanced Primary Care Program [EPC]). We do bulk bill.

  • Do physiotherapists provide massage?

Massage is only a small component of what physiotherapists provide for treatment. We only undertake soft tissue massage if it is deemed appropriate by your physiotherapist upon assessment. We do not provide remedial or relaxation massage.
