Frequently Asked Questions

  • What should I expect from my first visit?

At your first consultation, your physiotherapist will undertake a subjective and objective assessment to gather information about your symptoms and movement concerns. During the subjective assessment your physiotherapist will ask you questions to help them understand your presentation. During the objective assessment they will perform a range of physical tests to further explore how the issue is affecting you. Once they have enough information, they will outline a treatment plan that is tailored to your needs.

  • What should I wear?

Physiotherapy assessment and treatment may require your therapist to observe the posture and movement of the painful area and the surrounding regions, so removing outer garments is sometimes needed. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing such as a T-shirt, shorts and underwear or swimmers that allow easy movement and assessment.

  • What conditions can men’s health physiotherapy support?

Men’s health physiotherapy can support conditions related to pelvic health, bladder control, pelvic pain and functional changes that may occur at different stages of life. It may also assist men in managing changes before or after prostate treatment. A physiotherapist will assess individual concerns and provide education and guided therapy tailored to each person’s needs.

What to Expect From a Session

Men’s health physiotherapy supports comfort, function and confidence by addressing a range of physical concerns in a private and supportive setting. Sessions focus on understanding your symptoms, explaining the process and providing practical strategies to support everyday function.

Men’s health physiotherapy may assist with:

  • Therapy before, during & after prostate cancer treatment
  • Urinary & faecal incontinence
  • Pelvic pain & pelvic floor weakness
  • Sexual dysfunction

Appointments are conducted one-on-one in a private room, with no internal assessments performed. Your physiotherapist explains each step before proceeding and only continues with your consent. Sessions include assessment, education and guided exercises, with time spent explaining your condition and recommended next steps. You may also be given simple tasks to complete between appointments, such as symptom tracking or prescribed exercises.
